SCSRCH - Enter Search Criteria

This function is to be used in various ways by the institution. In the first instance the application is able to be configured in the application template to search for a student according to all the parameters available. In this case, if a new search is required then the user has to go back to the search application through the dynamic menu structure. The institution is able to modify the template to include or exclude search criteria and can create multiple instances of the search application in different formats, thus enabling the concept of simple and advanced searches to be established.

Additionally, the function can be grouped with other Staff Connect functions/pages, so that users can perform a search while in the context of a page. This enables the user to change the student they are viewing without having to navigate out of the page they are working in. This can be completed by hard coding the destination page into the search template rather than using the destination page LOV.

For example, if the user is looking at Person ID 91929291 in a Current Enrolment page, they can key in a simple search criteria (such as ID, Name) at the top of the page and search. If the search returns more than one record then the Display Search Results application should be displayed. If the search returns one student record only, the page that the staff member is currently using should be used as the page to navigate to.

To determine the page to take the user to from the Enter Search Criteria function the user has access to a menu list as a search parameter. This enables the user to specify the page to navigate to following the selection of the student.

This menu is granted to the person or security role and has the ‘Search Menu’ check box selected. Only one SSF menu can have this check box set per person or security role. If a user has more than one security role with different menus set as the Search Menu then the application displays the first menu it encounters.

When run, the Enter Search Criteria application identifies the appropriate menu codes from the dynamic menu, but looks for the ‘Search Menu’ check box rather than the default SSF menu check box. The user then uses this LOV to select the application they wish to go to, after selecting a context Person ID. When they click the Search button, the selected page from the LOV is stored in a parameter until required.
