VET Statistics Glossary
The terms used in the VET Statistics subsystem - Government Reporting are described below.
The relationships between data and concepts used in this subsystem are explained in detail in Understanding VET Statistics.

Copy Extract File to Secure Area | The process copies government statistics extract files from a secure directory to a directory where users can access them. |
Copy Government Submission Files from Secure Area | STAJ0120 - The process copies Government Statistics Extract files from a secure directory to a directory where users can access them. |
Create VET Enrolment Statistics Snapshot |
STAJ8000 - The Enrolment Statistics Snapshot is the first stage in the production of the institution's Government student statistical return. This job produces a Snapshot of Enrolment data recorded in the system on the date the job is run. |
Create VET FEE-HELP Government Submission Files | STAJ8850 - This job retrieves data from the VET FEE-HELP Submission Snapshot tables (STAJ8050) and the VET FEE-HELP Revisions Submission Snapshot (STAJ8055) to create submission files for reporting to the Government. |
Create VET FEE-HELP Submission Snapshot | STAJ8050 - This job identifies and extracts student records for inclusion in the VET FEE-HELP Government Submission files for Government statistics reporting. Eligibility rules are used to determine whether a student/unit is eligible for VET FEE-HELP and is therefore reported. |
Create VET FEE-HELP Revisions Submission Snapshot | STAJ8055 - This job identifies additions, deletions or changes to previously reported VET FEE-HELP snapshot records that were submitted as part of an institution's VET FEE-HELP statistical submission to the Government. The job records the identified changes (as well as any Remissions) in the Revisions file (VSR) that is then sent to the Government. |
Create VET Government Submission Files |
STAJ8800 - This function retrieves data from the VET Government Submission Snapshot, and writes it out to the AVETMISS files. Exceptions are logged to the job run log. |

STAJ8005 - To produce a point in time Snapshot of Enrolment, Government Fee Liability and Load data contained in the system for use in producing Government Statistical Returns. |
Delete VET Enrolment Statistics Snapshot |
STAJ8002 - To delete Enrolment Statistics Snapshots which are no longer required. |
Generate XML File from System Log | GENJ1100 - This job allows an administrator to select a system log file that was created when a job was run, and generate an XML file. |
Government Admissions Statistics Snapshot | STAJ0500 - This job is used to create a 'point in time' snapshot of the admissions data contained in the system. This data is then used (in STAJ0510) to create the Govt. University Applications and Offers files for reporting to the Government. |
Government Admissions Snapshot Control | STAF1360 - This form is used to configure the Submission Snapshot Control parameters and Admission calendars that are used in the Government Admissions Statistics Snapshot job (STAJ0500). |
Government Admission Submission Files | STAJ0510 - This job is used to create submission files from the admissions data extracted by the STAJ0500 job that are required for reporting Application and Offer data to the Government. |
Government Admissions Statistics Snapshot | STAJ0500 - This job is used to create a 'point in time' snapshot of the admissions data contained in the system. This data is then used (in STAJ0510) to create the Govt. University Applications and Offers files for reporting to the Government. |
Government Admissions Snapshot Control | STAF1360 - This form is used to configure the Submission Snapshot Control parameters and Admission calendars that are used in the Government Admissions Statistics Snapshot job (STAJ0500). |
Government Admission Submission Files | STAJ0510 - This job is used to create submission files from the admissions data extracted by the STAJ0500 job that are required for reporting Application and Offer data to the Government. |
Industry Codes (ANZSIC) | The Australian and New Zealand Standard Industrial Classification (ANZSIC) codes are relevant to the student's employer and are recorded for Victorian 'Skills for Growth' enrolments only. |
Maintain Government Attendance Modes | STAF112C - Used by both HE and VET. Institutions are required to report to Government Statistics concerning Courses offered and enrolments in Courses. These statistics include the Attendance Mode of each enrolled student. CRSF1160 - An Attendance Mode is an institution defined classification of the manner in which a student is undertaking a Course Offering option. |
Maintain Government Course Attendance Types | STAF112B - Used by both HE and VET. Institutions are required to report to Government Statistics concerning Courses offered and enrolments in Courses. These statistics include the Attendance Type of each enrolled student. CRSF1170 - An Attendance Type is an institution defined classification based on the proportion of full-time study load to be undertaken by a student, in a course. |
Maintain Government Country Codes | STAF1124 - This form (both VET and HE) is used to record and maintain the set of Government Country Codes. They are reported in the NAT00080 Client file as Country (of Birth) Identifiers. ENRF0120 - This form is used to record and maintain the institution defined set of Country Codes. |
Maintain Government Course Types | STAF1121 - Institutions (both VET and HE) are required to report statistics concerning courses offered and enrolments in courses to the government. They are reported in the NAT00030 Course file as a Course Identifier. Course Identifiers, and whether they are populated, depending on rules, also appear in NAT00120 Enrolment, NAT00130 Qualification Completed and NAT00180 Unit of Competency Completed. CRSF1110 - This form is used to record and maintain the set of Course Types determined by the institution. |
Maintain Government Delivery Type | STAF112O - Government Delivery Types are mapped to institution-defined values and are assigned to Unit Offering Options. They are reported in the NAT00120 Enrolment File as Delivery Type Identifiers. CRSF11L0 - Types are used to categorise Unit Offering Options. |
Maintain Government Disability Type | STAF112Z - This function enables the recording of a Government Disability Type and a Sector for the System Disability Types. They are reported in the NAT00090 Client Disability File as Disability Type Identifiers. |
Maintain Government Discipline | STAF1128 - There is a requirement (both VET and HE) to allocates unique codes to group Units of Study into like Disciplines within branches of learning. They are reported in NAT00060 Module/Unit of Competency File as Module/Unit of Competency Field of Education Identifiers. CRSF2110 - This form is used to record and maintain the set of institution defined Discipline Groups covering the Courses offered by the institution. |
Maintain Government Employment Category | STAF112M - Government Employment Categories are mapped to institution-defined values and are recorded for VET Person Statistics. Government Employment Categories are reported in the NAT00080 Client File. ENRF01R0 - The purpose of this function is to maintain institution-defined Employment Category values. |
Maintain Government Fields of Education | STAF112J - Institutions (both VET and HE) are required to identify the field of education to which courses are classified. They are reported in NAT00060 Module/Unit of Competency. ASCED Field of Education classification has a three-tiered hierarchial structure, 12 broad fields, 71 narrow fields and 356 detailed fields. There is a Code for each field. CRSF1140 - This form is used to record and maintain the set of institution-defined Fields of Study covering the courses offered by the institution. |
Maintain Government Field of Study | STAF1123 - Institutions (both VET and HE) are required to report to government statistics that include either the attribute Government Field of Study, research codes, Research Fields, Courses and Disciplines codes or Field of Research codes as specified by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.They are reported in NAT00030 Course File as Qualification Field of Education Indentifiers. CRSF1140 - This form is used to record and maintain the set of institution-defined Fields of Study covering the courses offered by the institution. |
Maintain Government Funding Source | STAF1127 - Institutions (both VET and HE) are required to report statistics including a Government Funding Source. This is a code that uniquely identifies the source of the funding for the delivery of a unit of competency or module. They are reported in NAT00120 Enrolment File as Funding Source - National. They are: 01 Commonwealth and
Sate recurrent funding for VET CRSF11B0 - This form is used to maintain the set of institution defined Funding Sources. |
Maintain Government Industry Group | STAF112V - The purpose of this process is to maintain Government Industry Groups. Government Industry Groups are mapped to institution-defined values and are recorded for a Course Version and Industry Sector. CRSF11N0 - Industry Groups will be assigned to Course Versions either directly, or indirectly via the industry sector. |
Maintain Government Language Codes | STAF1125 - This form is used to record and maintain the set of Government Language Codes. Institutions (both VET and HE) are required to report to Government, for each student, the main non-English language spoken at the student's permanent home residence. They are reported in NAT00080 Client File as Language (spoken at home) Identifiers. ENRF0130 - This form is used to record and maintain the institution defined set of Language Codes. |
Maintain Government Occupation Type | STAF112L - Government Occupation Types are mapped to institution-defined values and are recorded to uniquely identify the type of occupation that may be expected for those undertaking a program of study. They are reported in the NAT00030 Course File as an ANZSCO (Occupation Type) Identifiers. CRSF11K0 - Use this function to maintain institution-defined Occupation Type values. |
Maintain Government Outcome Identifier | STAF112T - Government Outcome Identifiers are mapped to institution-defined values and are recorded for a Grading Schema Grade. They are reported in NAT00120 Enrolment File as Outcome Identifier - National. ASSF01P0 - The purpose of this function is to maintain Provider Outcome Identifiers. |
Maintain Government Prior Education Type | STAF112P - A code that uniquely identifies the type of prior educational achievements successfully completed. They are reported in the NAT00100 Client Prior Educational Achievement File as Prior Education Achievement Identifiers. ENRF01T0 - The purpose of this process is to maintain user-defined Prior Education Type values. |
Maintain Government Recognition Status | STAF112K - A code that distinguishes a qualification or course by its level of recognition within the VET sector. They are reported in NAT00030 Course File as Recognition Status Identifiers. CRSF11J0 - Recognition Types are used to distinguish courses by their level of recognition within the VET sector. |
Maintain Government School Level Completed | STAF112N - Government School Level Completed Codes are mapped to institution-defined values and are recorded for VET Person Statistics. They are reported in the NAT00080 Client File as Highest School Level Completed. ENRF01S0 - The purpose of this function is to maintain institution-defined School Level Completed values. |
Maintain Government Spoken English Proficiency | STAF112S - A code that is used to assessthe English-speaking ability of people who speak a language other than English. They are reported in NAT00080 Client File as a Proficiency in Spoken English Identifer. ENRF01V0 - The purpose of this function is to maintain institution-defined Spoken English Proficiency values. |
Maintain Government State Code | STAF112W - A code that uniquely identifies the State or Territory of the physical location of a Training Organisation. They are reported in NAT00010 Training Organisation or NAT00020 Training Organisation Delivery Location as State Identifiers. They also appear in NAT00005 Submission to Managing Agent and NAT00085 Client Postal Details |
Maintain Government State Post Code | STAF112X - This function enables the recording of a Postcode Range (or ranges) for the States. They are reported in NAT00010 Training Organisation as Postcode and in NAT00020 Training Organisation Delivery Location as Postcode. |
Maintain Government Statistical Local Area | STAF112Y - Government Statistical Local Areas are recorded against Locations of type CAMPUS (defined by ABS) and are reported in the NAT00020 Training Provider Location as Statistical Local Area. |
Maintain Government Study Reason Identifier | STAF1131 - The Codes have been designed to correspond with codes used for a similar question in the Student Outcomes Survey. Government Study Reason Identifiers are mapped to institution-defined values and are recorded for Student Course Attempts. They are reported in NAT00120 Enrolment as Student Reason Identifiers. ENRF01X0 - This form is used to maintain the set of institution defined Study Reason Identifier (SRI) codes. |
Maintain Government Submission Snapshot Control | STAF8005 - It allows an institution to define what Load Periods the system should consider when creating a Government Submission Snapshot. It also allows the institution to mark a Government Submission Snapshot as complete. |
Maintain Government Training Organisation | STAF112U - A training organisation may directly provide training or coordinate the provision of training. It may be an Organisation that delivers its services through a network of colleges or a private institution with one or more campuses. It may also be a state body that does not provide training directly, but consolidates data from other providers for the national data collection. They are reported in NAT00010 Training Organisation. ORGF0141 - An Organisational Unit is a formal component of an institution or organisation, identified by its Organisational Unit Code and Start Date. |
Maintain Government Training Provider Type | STAF112Q - Government Training Provider Types are mapped to institution-defined values and are recorded for a Location. They are reported in the NAT00010 Training Organisation as Training Organisation Type Identifers. ORGF0119 - This function enables the mapping of institution-defined Training Provider Types. |
Maintain VET Aborig/Torres Strait Islander Codes | ENRF01U0 - The purpose of this function is to maintain institution-defined Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Codes, and map these codes to the associated government-defined codes in accordance with AVETMISS Documentation for the statistical details collection. |
Maintain VET Enrolment Statistics Snapshot Control | STAF8000 - Each snapshot will involve large volumes of data, and it is likely that only a small proportion of snapshots created will need to be saved for future reference. The Statistics specialist will be able to indicate which snapshots are no longer required. Comments can be recorded against snapshots; these comments may indicate why the snapshot has been retained in the system. |
Maintain VET FEE-HELP Snapshot | STAF8050 - This form is used to maintain data produced by the VET FEE-HELP Submission Snapshot (STAJ8050) and the VET FEE-HELP Revisions Submissions Snapshot (STAJ8055). It allows administrators to change the Reporting Status of submission snapshot records, or create a CSV output of the data. |
Maintain VET Person Statistics | ENRF3090 - The primary use of these statistical details is for Government reporting. Minimal statistical details can be captured from the NAN (for Apprentices) but the bulk of statistical information is captured at the time of Enrolment. |
Maintain VET Government ATSI Values | STAF112R - This function provides institutions with the ability to create and maintain Government Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Codes in accordance with the AVETMISS Documentation for the statistical details collection. This is a VET specific function, performing similar functionality to that of STAF112D Maintain Government Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Codes, as used in the DETYA statistical reporting process for HE students. |
