Purpose

To create and maintain Industry Groups.

Industry Groups will be assigned to Course Versions either directly, or indirectly via the industry sector.

An Industry Group can be used to classify one or more course versions (direct relationship), or alternatively it can be subdivided into one or more industry sectors (using the Maintain Industry Sector functionality).

The Industry Group information recorded against a Course Version is used for establishing funding targets and determining funding allocations.

The following are examples of Industry Group Codes that can be created and maintained in Callista using this function.

Note: The Industry Group Code defined by the institution may or may not replicate the Government Industry Group Code to which it is mapped. See Understanding VET Statistics for details.

The recording of a Government Industry Group against an institution-defined Industry Group is optional.

As an alternative, institutes can choose to record the Government-defined Industry Group description in the GOVT_DESCRIPTOR field using this functionality.

Rules/Notes:

To create a new Industry Group:

• Enter Insert mode.
• Enter the new Industry Group Type Code in the Industry Group field of a blank record.
• Enter the corresponding description for the Industry Group in the Description field.
• Select the Government Industry Group to which the new institution defined Industry Group Type maps from the list of values (or key a valid value) in the Govt Industry Group field.
• Record Government Descriptor.
• Record any comments applicable to this Industry Group.
• Record an explanation for each Industry Group. Industry Group explanations are used as part of the GOVT-STATS application in Callista Connect.
• Save.

Rules/Notes:

More than one active institution-defined Industry Group can exist for each Government Industry Group Type.

Institution-defined Industry Group codes MUST be unique. 

To modify an Industry Group:

• Find the record to be modified.
• Modify the record, as required.
• Save.

Rules/Notes:

Once in use, an institution-defined Industry Group should not be modified.

To delete an Industry Group:

• Find the record to be deleted.
• Locate the cursor in the record to be deleted.
• Delete record.
• Save.

Rules/Notes:

An Industry Group can be closed preventing any further use by selecting the Closed check box.
