Explanation

This form is used to record and maintain the set of Government Language Codes. Universities are required to report to Government, for each student, the main non-English language spoken at the student's permanent home residence. The codes for reporting this data are specified in the HEIMS manual (element 348). Where a set of institution defined Language Codes has been defined (ENRF0130), each must be mapped to a particular Government Language Code.

To create a new Government Language Code record using the Maintain Government Language Codes form:

  • Enter Insert mode
  • Enter the new Language Code in the Govt Language Code field of a blank record
  • Enter the corresponding description for the Language Code in the Description field.
  • Save

To delete a Government Language Code record using the Maintain Government Language Codes form:

  • Find the record to be deleted
  • Locate the cursor in the record to be deleted
  • Delete record
  • Save

Rules/Notes:

A Government Language Code cannot be deleted if it has been assigned to a user defined Language Code. It can be closed, preventing any further use, by selecting the Closed check box.

To modify a Government Language Code record using the Maintain Government Language Codes form:

  • Find the record to be modified
  • Modify the record as required
  • Save

Rules/Notes:

A Government Language Code can only be modified where the change is to correct an incorrectly entered description.
