This form is used to record and maintain the set of institution-defined Fields of Study covering the courses offered by the institution. These may be mapped to the Government Fields of Education (defined in STAF112J) that are reported to Government. Institution-defined Fields of Study may be historically mapped to the Govt Field of Study codes (defined in STAF1123) that were previously reported to Government. To allow for a more detailed classification of Fields of study at the institution level, more than one institution-defined Field of Study code can be mapped to the same Government Field of Education code. |

To create a new field of study or research code using the Maintain Fields of Study form:

Rules/Notes: New institution-defined Field of Study codes should be mapped to Govt Field of Education codes. A field of study/research code cannot be mapped to a CLOSED Government field of study/research code. Government Field of Eductaion value must be 4 digits in length.

To delete a field of study or research code using the Maintain Fields of Study form:

Rules/Notes: If a field of study or research code has been used in the definition of a course, it cannot be deleted. It can be closed, preventing any further use, by selecting the Closed check box. A CLOSED field of study/research code cannot be re-opened if the Government code to which it is mapped is CLOSED. |
To modify a field of study or research code using the Maintain Fields of Study form:

Rules/Notes: If a field of study/research code has been used in the definition of a course, only the description can be modified. This is not recommended unless the change in description is minor and does not affect the meaning of the description. A new field of study/research code should normally be created. A field of study/research code can be closed, preventing any further use, by selecting the Closed check box. |
