The Confucius Institute at Charles Darwin University (CDU) is the result of a partnership between Hainan University, Anhui Normal University and CDU. The Confucius Institute at CDU is committed to the development of Chinese language education in the NT, and the advancement of mutual understanding between China and Australia.
Currently, the Confucius Institute has one affiliated Confucius classroom at Woodroffe Primary School in Palmerston. It has also established excellent partnerships with 11 local schools by offering Chinese language support and insights into Chinese culture, helping them to become more multicultural.
The Confucius Institute teaching team is composed of professional Chinese language teachers and volunteer Chinese teachers from China, as well as local casual teachers who are CDU students studying Masters of Teaching. The professional teachers are selected from Chinese universities and the volunteers are chosen from postgraduates, mainly from Hainan University and Anhui Normal University.
