Our popular traditional handcraft activities are coming! To allow more people to experience these beautiful crafts, we are offering four separate sessions, each featuring a unique traditional Chinese craft. You can sign up for one or multiple workshops, with a limit of 10 participants per session due to material availability.
Chinese traditional handcraft activity (Session 1)
🌟 Experience the timeless beauty of lacquer inlay 🌟
📅 Sunday 30 March, 2 pm - 4 pm | 🎨 Lacquer inlay – landscape/peony brooch
Lacquer inlay, also known as luó diàn, is a centuries-old craft that uses iridescent shells like mother-of-pearl and abalone to create stunning decorative art. Once reserved for imperial furnishings, it remains a symbol of refined craftsmanship today.
In this workshop, you’ll explore the history and techniques of lacquer inlay before designing your own landscape or peony brooch. No experience is needed—our instructor will guide you step by step through the inlay process.

🎨 The elegance of filigree cloisonné 🌈

Filigree cloisonné, known as qiā sī fǎ láng in Chinese, is a delicate craft that uses thin metal wires to outline intricate patterns, which are then filled with colourful enamel or resin. Unlike traditional cloisonné, this technique focuses on fine wirework, creating exquisite, lightweight designs.
In this workshop, you’ll learn the fundamentals of filigree cloisonné and design your own coaster, crafting elegant patterns with precision and creativity.

Silk thread flower craft is a delicate and intricate art that transforms fine silk into stunning accessories. Once a symbol of elegance in ancient China, it is now making a comeback in modern fashion.
In this workshop, you’ll create a dragonfly brooch or bamboo hairpin, mastering the skill of wrapping silk threads to shape exquisite designs.
