Since graduating with a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours from CDU in 1998, Dr Mark Englund has become a multi-award winning serial entrepreneur, founding three deep tech startups that rapidly expanded to make an impact on the world stage.
The first was founded in 2001 and developed and manufactured cutting-edge optical filtering technology that enabled both terrestrial and submarine telecoms cable to function over extremely long distances.
His second company, FiberSense, has won a series of awards for its asset protection products, providing SONAR like sensing capabilities which can be switched on over existing fibre-optic telecoms cables at land and sea, assisting with early warnings of disasters including earthquakes and tsunamis.
Mark was awarded the prestigious Pearcy Foundation Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2022 for NSW, and was awarded National Entrepreneur of the Year in that same year, joining the likes of the founders of some of Australia’s biggest technology companies including Atlassian, Canva, Afterpay and Google Maps.
