Callista Connect Glossary

To understand Callista Connect, it is necessary to understand the following key terms.

Term

Explanation

Access and Equity Category Institutions can define Access and Equity Categories available to applicants via the Applicant Portal, for example, Hearing Impaired. Access and Equity Categories are defined in ADMF0610.

Access Code

An institution-defined code representing a broad type of web access. An access code is assigned to each Callista Connect application.

Active user

A user who is able to access Callista Connect web pages when the CALLISTA ID authentication method is used.

Agent A user who belongs to an external agency that has been given permission by an institution to submit Admission applications online via Applicant Portal on behalf of prospective or existing students.
Agent Connect Used by agents to lodge an application for admission to a course on behalf of an applicant.
Agent Applicant Portal Used by agents on behalf of applicants to apply for admission to a course.

Applicant Portal

Web-based means by which an applicant (prospective student) can apply for admission to a course.

Applicant Portal Final Date Alias This Date Alias is set in ADMF02R0 . This date restricts the Admission Periods that are available to an applicant portal user.
Applicant Portal Transfer Status Institutions can define Applicant Portal Statuses in ADMF0910. These values are mapped to system transfer statuses and are assigned to an Applicant Portal application and its components to indicate if the application has been submitted.

Application

Callista Connect functionality that enables users to update and/or inquire on student specific and generic Callista held information

Authentication

The validation of a Callista Connect user's login details before allowing access to secure applications.

Authentication Age Timeout

The period of time after which a Callista Connect user must re-authenticate to secure applications.

Authentication Configuration

Details which enable Callista Connect to establish a connection with the correct database when authentication method ORACLE USER is used in conjunction with a specific user category.

Authentication Method

A valid authentication type for a specified user category.

Authentication Type

A system defined process for validating the login details of a Callista Connect user before allowing access to secure applications.

CALLISTA ID

an authentication method internal to Callista that uses a Callista user ID and a password to uniquely identify users.

Cascading Style Sheet

Allows the definition of common style attributes for specific web page elements, resulting in a consistent look for displayed text. In Callista Connect, a CSS file can be created as a web element and used as a web page property

Cellpadding

The amount of space that appears between a border and the text in a table cell displayed in a web page

Cellspacing

The size of the cells within a table displayed in a web page.

Citizenship Type Institutions can define Citizenship Types whose descriptions are available for selection by applicants via the Applicant Portal. Citizenship Types are defined in ADMF0285.
Connect Manager

Functionality that enables the administration of security, applications, global configuration and users. These functions are managed within Callista forms.

Connect Web Administrator Functionality used by administrators to create the web pages for delivering an institution's suite of online student self-serve applications. These applications enable students to view and update selected Callista held details. Examples are view results, self-enrolment and change addresses.

Font Colour

The colour of a font used in a web font template.

Font Face

A type of font used in a web font template.

Font Size

The size of a font used in a web font template.

Font Template

A set of font attributes (colour, face and size) that can be applied to a web page style.

Footer Template

A template (HTML file) which defines the appearance of a footer that may be added to a web page.

Header Template

A template (HTML file) which defines the appearance of a header that may be added to a web page. Although called a header, the file may also define the appearance and operation of a side menu.

Idle Timeout

The period of inactive time in a Callista Connect session after which a user must re-authenticate to secure applications.

JavaScript

An application development language which is an extension of HTML, that enables enhanced web page features. Uses include form validations (on client machines), text scrollers, special text effects and current day display.

Key Age Timeout

The period of time after which the user ID/password encryption key is changed by the system. The key is changed in order to make it more difficult for an unauthorised person to decrypt.

Links

Coloured and underlined text or a graphic in a web page that users can select in order to navigate to a file, a location in a file, an HTML page on the World Wide Web, or an HTML page on an intranet. In Callista Connect, links can also navigate to other applications.

Mapping Method

The protocol used by Callista Connect during user authentication to identify the correct person in the Callista database.

OnClick

A defined action when a link is clicked or selected.

OnMouse Out

A defined action occurring subsequent to OnMouse Over, when the mouse is moved away from a link.

OnMouse Over

A defined action when the mouse cursor is moved over a link.

ORACLE USER

An authentication method internal to Callista that uses an Oracle user name and a password to uniquely identify users.

Page Templates

A set of page body attributes that may be applied to a web page style. Attributes include background colour and image, and links colours.

Password

A user provided login input which, in combination with a user ID, uniquely identifies a person as a valid system user.

PUBLIC Access

Access to Callista Connect that does not require users to be authenticated.

Secure Application

A Callista Connect application requiring users to be authenticated before gaining access.

Self Serve Delivery Type

A medium for delivering Callista Connect applications (for example, WEB).

Self Serve Input

Information provided by a person when logging into a secure application, which enables the system to authenticate the person as a valid user. Typical inputs are a user ID or user name, and a password or PIN.

Staff Connect Web pages and applications used by staff to query Connect student information.
Student Connect Used by enrolled students to view or maintain their personal details and all related course details; such as course attempts and related financial information.

Style

A set of attributes applied to a web page to define its characteristics. The attributes include page body, font template and table template.

Table Templates

A set of table attributes that may be applied to a web page style. The attributes include text alignment, border size, cell spacing, cell padding and background colour.

Type of Place Institutions can define Types of Places for a course available to applicants via the applicant portal. e.g. Commonwealth Supported and Full Fee Paying. Types of places are defined in ADMF0600 and associated with a course in CRSF1600.

User Category

An institution defined grouping of Callista Connect users with common attributes. Each user category is associated with one or more authentication methods, mapping methods and login inputs.

User Identifier

A user provided login input that, in combination with a password or PIN, uniquely identifies a person as a valid system user.

Virtual Directory

The full path of a directory or directories containing icon, image and template files used in page builder. Defined at the time of installation.

Waive Rules Allows both Unit and Course Rules to be waived.

Web Login Page Code

The institution-defined code for a Callista Connect web page that contains the login application.

Web Page Code

The institution-defined code for a Callista Connect web page.

Web Style Code

The institution-defined code for a Callista Connect web style. Attributes of a web style include page body, font and table templates.
