An honours degree is designed to give students a competitive advantage for employment, or to provide a first step in a research or academic career.
The Bachelor of Science Honours course provides an opportunity for students with a Bachelors degree to:
- study a specific aspect of science in depth
- gain experience and training in research techniques and principles
- develop written and oral communication skills
- work collaboratively on projects with industry and government partners.
The major component of this course is a two semester (full-time) research project.
This research project can be done in a wide range of fields, including:
- biology
- ecology
- spatial science
- analytical chemistry and molecular modelling
- exercise and sports science
- medical laboratory science
- pharmacy
- information systems
- mobile networking
- software development.
The other components of the course are course-work units designed to develop specific research skills, including the communication of research results.
The course can be done full-time or part-time and is available off-campus in external mode (depending upon the availability of projects and supervisors).
Course and project information
The BSCIH course is coordinated through the Faculty of Science and Technology. Projects may be offered by staff in the following schools or institutes:
- Research Institute for the Environmental and Livelihoods
- Faculty of Science and Technology
- Faculty of Health
- Menzies School of Health Research.
