CDU Community Mental Health Placement Subsidies

The Faculty of Health is offering Community Mental Health Placement Subsidies to eligible Nursing, Social Work, and Occupational Therapy students, travelling into or out of rural or remote areas to undertake mental health/community-based placements with a focus on wellbeing. 

The subsidy is a payment made directly to eligible students to provide financial support when attending rural or remote placements.

The Modified Monash Model (MMM) is used to determine what is classified as rural and remote. It rates suburbs and localities on a scale of 1 to 7 (MM1-MM7) - see what classification your area is

Eligibility

To be eligible you must be a CDU student meeting the following criteria: 

Social Work
  • Subsidy: $2,000-$4,000
  • Course: Enrolled in Bachelor of Social Work or Master of Social Work (Qualifying) 
  • Unit: Currently completing placements for SWK230 orSWK470 orSWK631 
  • Additional Criteria: Must travel into or out of rural or remote areas (MM3-MM7) to attend a placement at least 80km away from home address.
  • You may be granted an additional $2,000 if your placement is located at a MM6-MM7 location and lasts more than 12 weeks.
Occupational Therapy
  • Subsidy: $2,000 
  • Course: Enrolled in Bachelor of Health Science/Master of Occupational Therapy or Master of Occupational Therapy
  • Unit: Currently completing placements for OCC514 or OCC516 
  • Additional Criteria: Must travel into or out of rural or remote areas (MM3-MM7) to attend a placement at least 80km away from home address. 
Nursing
  • Subsidy: $2,000 
  • Course: Enrolled in Diploma of Health Care/Bachelor of Nursing or Bachelor of Nursing or Master of Nursing (Pre-registration) 
  • Unit: Currently completing placements for NUR258 or NUR410 or NUR541 or NUR600
  • Additional Criteria: Must travel into or out of rural or remote areas (MM3-MM7) to attend a placement at least 80km away from home address.
