Preventing extinctions is at last government policy. It is about time. For the thirty plus years we have been working with Australian threatened species, here and abroad, we have been highlighting their plight, working out ways extinction can be prevented and population declines reversed. Much of the documentation has been dismal but there have been a few successes that need to be celebrated and practical solutions that can be adopted more widely. Threatened species conservation can be all-encompassing as a subject and we have tried to contribute across many domains - our work includes everything from ecology and physiology through to law, policy and the social sciences. While we have worked primarily with Australian threatened species, we are also contributing to many global initiatives.
