In late 2022 the Bureau of Meteorology and CSIRO released the latest State of the Climate report for Australia, focusing on observed changes across the climate system, including the atmosphere and oceans.
This seminar will present the key results from the report, with a particular focus on changes affecting the Northern Territory, as well as other observed changes in the Territory and northern Australia more generally.
Blair Trewin is a senior research scientist at the Bureau of Meteorology in Melbourne. He was the Bureau lead for the 2022 State of the Climate report and was the climate co-lead for the federal State of the Environment report. He was also a lead author for the IPCC Sixth Assessment report and is currently leading the World Meteorological Organization's decadal climate report to be published later this year. He leads the development of data sets for monitoring observed temperature change in Australia.

The polyphagous shot-hole borer (PSHB) is a tiny beetle with a mouthful of a name, but it’s been making headlines as a new invasive species in Australia. PSHB was first detected in Perth three years ago and has since devastated trees across the city. There are concerns about what its further spread could mean for urban, agricultural and natural environments.
