Natalie Robson is a PhD candidate, and Dr Carol Palmer is a senior research associate at the Research Institute for the Environment and Livelihoods (RIEL) at Charles Darwin University.
In the seminar ‘Marine megafauna research across the remotest sea country in the NT’, Natalie and Carol will discuss the Australian Research Council-funded Marine Megafauna Project, which focuses on sea country partnerships with eight Indigenous Ranger groups across the Top End of the Northern Territory (NT). The project encompasses work on sea turtles, dolphins and whales.
It marks the first time this important research and partnership has been undertaken in the NT's most unsurveyed and remote sea country. The team has identified hotspot foraging areas for green turtles and has identified 12 species of dolphins and whales across the amazing sea country of the Top End, including Fog Bay.
Natalie has 10 years of experience in marine research, focusing on turtle research and marine habitat mapping. Her previous experience includes establishing and leading the Conflict Islands Conservation Initiative’s Turtle Program in Papua New Guinea.
Carol’s research experience includes undertaking and managing marine megafauna research on cetaceans, sea turtles, and manta rays across the NT. She is currently managing CDU’s Marine Megafauna Project.
