Student stories
Postgraduate IT student Pravaka used networking to succeed
During a break in his final semester in a Master of Information Technology, Pravaka got a temporary job as a data analyst. This experience helped him land his current role. Now, working at the Department of Education, Pravaka’s never been happier.
"The workforce in Darwin is very multicultural, and the work culture is very relaxed,” says Pravaka.
My colleagues are helpful with guiding me in my job, and my managers are good mentors. They share the stories of their success and tell me how I can grow professionally and personally. I think that’s a good thing about working in NT.
Building relationships
Pravaka is thankful to CDU for the networking opportunities he’s been given.
Networking is very important in Darwin, and CDU absolutely supports that.
“They host a series of activities and events throughout the year where you can meet people from government and private businesses," he adds.
"These people are potentially your future colleagues and managers, so building a proper network makes it easier for you to find work and to progress in your career.”
Getting out and about
When he’s not working, Pravaka takes advantage of the outdoor lifestyle on his doorstep.
“I play tennis at least three times a week, and on top of that, I like to explore the NT and the outback culture as much as possible,” he says.
“I go camping in Kakadu and the Nitmiluk National Park and love to hike along the trails of Katherine Gorge.”
So, would Pravaka recommend Darwin to others?
I think Darwin has a lot to offer. I think it’s the number one choice for international students.
