Cindy’s social work success in Darwin

Alumni Cindy Social Work

Cindy studied a Master of Social Work at CDU. After she completed her work placement, she found her dream job.

“Exactly two weeks after I finished my placement, I was speaking with someone who knew of a job opportunity," says Cindy. "They encouraged me to apply, and the rest is history."

Cindy now works as a social worker in the Northern Territory Department of Health.

Finding your people

One of the things that Cindy loves most about Darwin is its people and culture.

Darwin is small but diverse. It’s a great place to study and network, and you will always find your kind.

"I had no family and friends here when I arrived, but now I’ve got friends from all walks of life," she says.

"I think this is because of the uniqueness of Darwin. I don't think it's something that you’d find elsewhere.”

Out and about

As a busy working mum of four, Cindy’s life is a whirlwind. But she still makes time to enjoy Darwin’s social scene.

“Darwin offers something for everyone, and when I can, I meet with friends for drinks.”

Living the dream

Cindy feels like she’s been really lucky living and studying in Darwin.

“I think it’s easier to find jobs in Darwin than in any other state in Australia,” she says. “I can say that’s been my experience for sure.”

She also feels like studying and living in Darwin was meant to be.

“When I chose to come to CDU, I didn't know anything about the place,” she says. “Looking back in retrospect, I feel like I was led here. I wouldn’t have it any other way. It's home to me now.”

My advice to anyone considering coming is not to waste any more time thinking about it. Put in your application and be here soon as you can you.
