VET Delivered to Secondary Students

At CDU, you don't have to wait until you've finished school to start making tracks in your career.

Our VET Delivered to Secondary Students (VETDSS) program is a training pathway that helps you get job ready while you finish your high school studies.

You’ll learn industry-specific skills, increase your employability and work towards gaining a nationally recognised VET qualification.

What year level can I apply?

To study a VETDSS course, you must be entering Year 9, with Expressions of Interest (EOI) forms being available from your School Coordinator in September this year, to apply for next year's programs.

Student eligibility criteria:

• Year 9 – up to a Certificate I qualification
• Year 10 – up to a Certificate II qualification
• Year 11 and 12 – up to a Certificate III qualification.

CDU has a policy regarding any child under the age of 15 years old. Any child under the age of 15 years old must be accompanied by a responsible adult.  Secondary Schools that have Students under the age of 15 years participating in a VETDSS program, must work closely with the VET Secondary School Program Coordinator to ensure the necessary supervision of their students during break times.

What courses can I do?

Each year, the courses that are available to school students are negotiated by secondary schools.

All program information and an Expression of Interest (EOI) form can be collected from your School Coordinator.

Courses offered as a VETDSS program can be delivered 1-2 days per week or in blocks across the secondary school year.

School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBAT)

Discover your potential and get a head start in your career through SBAT. You will earn a wage, train with an employer and work towards getting a qualification in your chosen industry while completing your high school studies.

SBATs are considered part-time apprenticeships. Typically, your week will be broken up into:

• 3 days a week at school
• 2 days a week at work or training.

Once you've finished high school, you will have the opportunity to finish your apprenticeship on a full-time basis.

VETDSS Funding

Designated VETDSS funding allows a range of programs to be delivered in secondary schools across the NT. 

VETDSS funding is managed by the NTG Department of Education.

Other programs may be delivered by CDU following consultation with the VET for Secondary School Program Coordinator.
