Special collections and archives

These collections comprise broad, interdisciplinary, published and unpublished material dealing with Northern Australia and contiguous maritime and land areas.

CDU Digital Collections

The East Timor Collection contains materials published in Portuguese during the Salazarist dictatorship from 1926 to 1974. Currently, 36 titles from the Collection, published between 1885-1985, mainly in Portuguese, are available electronically. The whole collection of 1640 titles covering the Portuguese period in East Timor is accessible through Library Search. If you'd like to view an item, we'll retrieve it for you - send a request to us.

CDU has historically significant photograph collections such as the Shewring and Vesteys Collections. There are also photographs documenting the history of Charles Darwin University from the Ledwidge collection.

The Arafura Research Archive Collection preserves and makes available records relating to research in the Northern Territory and region. Topics covered document social, educational, military and political history. Some of the treasures in the collection relate to bilingual education in remote NT communities, the history of South East Asia, the emotive history of the Territory's short-lived Rights of the Terminally Ill Act, the NT Euthanasia Collection, and the evolution of the University. A small number of materials, including box lists, are available electronically. The majority of the collection’s materials are held in the archives. Ask us if you'd like to view an item, and we'll retrieve it for you.

Rare book collection

Held at Casuarina campus Library. Items are restricted from general use as they are rare or fragile. Send a request to us if you'd like to view an item, and we'll retrieve it for you.
