Explanation
Throughout the system, a notes facility is provided to enable additional information to be attached to specific data. Within the Course Structure and Planning subsystem, notes may be attached to:

Note types enable grouping of notes according to like characteristics, such as content or purpose. This form is used to record and maintain the set of note types which may be assigned to course and unit notes.

Example
A note type HANDBOOK could be created and used to define those course and unit notes which have been created to facilitate maintenance of the University handbook.


To create a new note type using the Maintain Course Structure & Planning Note Types form:
  1. Enter Insert Mode.
  2. Enter the desired name (or code) of the note type in the Note Type field of a blank record.
  3. Enter a meaningful description for the note type in the Description field.
  4. Save.
To delete a note type using the Maintain Course Structure & Planning Note Types form:
  1. Find the record to be deleted.
  2. Locate the cursor in the record to be deleted.
  3. Delete record.
  4. Save.
Rules:
  • It is unlikely that note types will need to be deleted. If a note type has been used in the definition of a note, it cannot be deleted.
To modify a note type using the Maintain Course Structure & Planning Note Types form:
  1. Find the record to be modified.
  2. Modify the record as required.
  3. Save.
Rules:
  • If a note type has been used in the definition of a note , only the description can be modified. This is not recommended unless the change in description is minor and does not affect the meaning of the note type. A new note type should normally be created.
