PRDW0010 - Precedent Types

Table of Contents

Overview

This is a data reference page that is used to create and maintain 'institution-defined' Precedent Types and map them to one or more System Precedent Types: ADVANCED STANDING, ADMISSIONS and/or PREREQUISITE.

This page is used when setting up data required for Precedents (i.e. Precedent Types created in this page appear in the List of Values for the Precedent Type field located in the General Details step of Precedents (PRDW0400)).

Precedent Types are used to indicate whether a Precedent is to be used for:

A new Precedent (in PRDW0400) can be created for one or all of the Precedent Types. If a Precedent is of multiple Types, then separate Precedent records are created but with the same ID for each Precedent Type.

To use this page, it is expected that you will be an administrator authorised to establish Reference data for Precedents.

Field Descriptions

The following table describes each field on the New Precedent Type (PRDW0010) pop-up page, including applicable Table values.

An asterisk (*) indicates the field is mandatory when creating a new Precedent Type.

Field: Description:
*Precedent Type

Institution-defined Precedent Type. The name entered here must be unique.

Once the record is saved the Precedent Type name cannot be changed.

A Precedent Type must be mapped to at least one System Precedent Type (see below).

Once saved, the Precedent Type is included in the List of Values (LOV) for the Precedent Type field located in the General Details step of Precedents (PRDW0400).

Table value:
PRECEDENT_TYPE.PRECEDENT_TYPE

*Description

Short description of the Precedent Type.

Table Value:
PRECEDENT_TYPE.DESCRIPTION

*System Precedent Types

The System Precedent Type to which the Precedent Type can be mapped.

Select at least one of the following System Precedent Types; more than one can be selected, if required:

  • ADVANCED STANDING - Enables you to capture Advanced Standing details when creating a Precedent in the Advanced Standing step of Precedents. These details are used to grant a student full or partial exemption from a unit.
Note: Precedents with a Precedent Type mapped to this System Precedent Type can be attached to the student's Advanced Standing record (in ADVF2000 or ADVF4200).
  • ADMISSIONS - Enables you to capture details (when creating a Precedent) of an internal or external course that can count as an entry requirement to a course.
(Note: Precedents with a Precedent Type mapped to this System Precedent Type can be attached to a course application in ADMF3240.)
  • PREREQUISITE - Enables you to capture details (when creating a Precedent) of an internal or external course that can count as a prerequisite requirement to a course.

Table Values:
PRECEDENT_TYPE.ADVANCED_STANDING_IND
PRECEDENT_TYPE.PRE-REQUISITE_IND
PRECEDENT_TYPE.PRE-REQUISITE_IND

Source

This field is used to specify an Advanced Standing Source for an Advanced Standing Precedent Type. (An Advanced Standing Source is used to identify the basis for Advanced Standing.)

Only sources that are mapped to a System Advanced Standing Source of CRDT-TRANS (see the 'Maintain Advanced Standing Source' (ADVF1140) form) are available for selection.

This field is only displayed if the 'Allow Advanced Standing Source Mapping' check box is selected in the Precedent Configuration (PRDW0100) page.

The System Precedent Type - 'Advanced Standing' check box (on this page) must be selected first before you can select a value for the Source field.

If you select the Admissions and/or Prerequisite check boxes (on this page) as well as the Advanced Standing check box, then the Source field selector is disabled.

Table Value:
PRECEDENT_TYPE.ADVANCED_STANDING_SOURCE

Default

Select this check box to make the Precedent Type the default Precedent Type.

The default Precedent Type is automatically displayed in the Precedent Type field on the New Precedent page (PRDW0400) when creating a new Precedent.

Closed

Select this check box to close the Precedent Type.

'Closed' Precedent Types cannot be assigned to Precedents and are not included in the List of Values for the Precedent Type field located in the General Details step of PRDW0400.

A Precedent Type can be closed regardless of whether it has been assigned to a Precedent or not.

Table Value:
PRECEDENT_TYPE.CLOSED_IND
