ADVF1140 - Maintain Advanced Standing Source

Purpose

Provides the ability to map institution-defined Advanced Standing Sources to System Advanced Standing Sources, and is used to identify the basis for Advanced Standing.

Subsystem

Advanced Standing
Normally Run By Administrator Specialist
Anticipated Frequency As required
Structure  Block  Advanced Standing Source

Note: This form applies to VET and cross-sector institutions only.

This function provides the ability to map institution-defined Advanced Standing Sources to System Advanced Standing Sources, which is used to identify the basis for advanced standing. This enables:

  1. business rules to be enforced based on the system values, once they have been used to identify the basis of the advanced standing;
  2. (optionally) an institution to record a Provider Outcome Identifier against each of the institution-defined Advanced Standing Sources. The recording of an Outcome Identifier for each source provides the ability to identify which units should be picked up by the AVETMISS reporting. See Understanding VET Statistics for details.
For Advanced Standing Sources with the system values (defined in the table below) of type RPL or CRDT-TRANS, the recording of an open Provider Outcome Identifier is mandatory.

For example, the table below defines some of the possible System Advanced Standing Source values that can be used in the system. These values can be made available within this form for association with institution-defined Advanced Standing Sources.

System Advanced Standing Source Description Comments
RPL Recognition of Prior Learning Granted for students able to prove they satisfy the learning outcomes for a VET module/unit of competency. RPL can be based on life experience, work experience, training provided at work or studies undertaken in another course.
CRDT-TRANS Credit Transfer Granted for students who have completed the same module/unit of competency at another institution.

The Advanced Standing Source block contains:

  • System Advanced Standing Source

Rules/Notes:

Note: For Release 12.0.0.2, institutions were required to create four new institution-defined Advanced Standing Sources via this form, map each to the System Advanced Standing Source, RPL, and assign the relevant Provider Outcome Identifier to each. The four institution-defined Advanced Standing Sources were then included in the LOV for the 'Advanced Standing Source' field on the Basic Details tab (accessed via the Unit Details button). For example:

  • Adv Standing Source 'RPL_GR' - mapped to System Adv Standing Source RPL, for Provider Outcome Id 51(recognition of prior learning granted).
  • Adv Standing Source 'RPL_NOT_GR' - mapped to System Adv Standing Source RPL, for Provider Outcome Id 52 (recognition of prior learning not granted).
  • Adv Standing Source 'RCC_GR' - mapped to System Adv Standing Source RPL, for Provider Outcome Id 53 (recognition of current competency granted).
  • Adv Standing Source 'RCC_NOT_GR' - mapped to System Adv Standing Source RPL, for Provider Outcome Id 54 (recognition of current competency not granted).

The relevant Provider Outcome Identifier must be assigned to each of the Advanced Standing Sources, i.e: 51 (Recognition of prior learning granted), 52 (Recognition of prior learning not granted), 53 (Recognition of current competency granted) and 54 (Recognition of current competency not granted).

(Note: The Provider Outcome Identifier of 50 is no longer available.)

To modify an Advanced Standing Source:

Rules/Notes:

  • Locate the cursor in the record to be deleted.
