Alumni Award for Community Service recipient - Alina Biju

Alina is a Biomedical Science graduate from CDU.

Since migrating to Katherine, with her family at a young age from India, Alina has proved a strong leader in her community.

Her passions lie in advocating gender equity in STEM and improving health literacy among young people in the Territory.

While studying at CDU, Alina founded the Women’s Collective for Innovation and Change, a student group aimed at empowering women & non-binary students to achieve their dreams.

Alina created the digital platform “Keep it Lit NT” which aims to increase women and girls’ participation in STEM, and it resulted in her winning the inaugural NT National Science Week Award for ‘Promoting Women and Girls in STEM Representation’. It will soon be rebranded to ‘Keep it Lit Aus’, becoming a nation wide initiative as she plans to move interstate.

Alina was involved in numerous community initiatives including ‘Act Now, Save India’ – a program to help people with COVID- 19 in India.

Alina was also Finalist for the 2022 Northern Territory Young Achiever Award.
