HDR scholarships

CDU Domestic Excellence scholarships (CDUDES)

Charles Darwin University (CDU) is looking for Australia’s top higher degree by research candidates with the launch of a generous scholarship program. The aim of the program is to attract high-performance HDR students to the Northern Territory for a unique and rewarding research career.

Successful applicants will receive a scholarship of $40,000 a year for three years to contribute to CDU's strong research culture. Each project includes a HDR Internship. 

Applications from aspiring HDR students are sought for the available projects by 1 March 2024.

Eligibility criteria

A PhD candidate must be:

  • eligible to enrol in a PhD, as defined by these guidelines
  • able to commence between 5 January 2024 and 31 March 2024

Essential Criteria:

  • First Class Honours or Masters by Research in a university ranked in the top 500* (OR)
  • A high distinction on a postgraduate research project in a university ranked in the top 500*

Desirable Criteria:

  • A publication equivalent to the top 25% in the field in which the applicant was the first author.

How to apply

Submit an expression of interest to the supervisor including the following:

  • A cover letter that includes a brief statement of the applicant’s suitability (maximum of two pages)
  • A curriculum vitae, including a list of any peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations and relevant work and/or research experience.
  • A brief statement not exceeding 500 words in length that explains why you are interested in this research project/area.
