Higher Degree by Research
 Dr Luis Herrera

My research primarily focuses on the fundamentals of adsorption and separation of gases. This encompasses the study of the mechanism of adsorption of gases at temperatures above and below the critical temperature, wetting of gasses, characterisation of porous materials, and the development of new methods to simulate porous materials. Adsorption is one of the main processes for removing contaminants because it is a cost-effective technology that can be used for a wide range of applications and under different operation conditions.

Current research projects are:

  • Study of direct carbon capture pathways using molecular simulation.
  • Study of adsorption of gases at supercritical conditions.
  • Carbon capture on functionalised carbon materials.
