Associate Professor Bea Staley

Dr Bea Staley

Bea holds a Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology from the University of Iowa, and a PhD in Multicultural Equity Studies in Education from Ohio State University.

Bea’s teaching and research interests relate to language development, literacy, diversity and difference.

Bea studies children and youth in context of their families and communities.

Bea has two active research projects:

Caregiver Perspectives of Disability, a longitudinal qualitative study of families and their children and their experiences interacting with health and education systems.

A grant funded project related to the Standard Australian English (SAE) grammar acquisition of Aboriginal students who are learning SAE as an additional language.

Bea supervises PhD students in her areas of expertise.
