Research Ethics and Ethics clearance for HDR students

Research Ethics

Our research and research culture at CDU is underpinned by the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research and serves to uphold respect and integrity for all research participants, the special issues of First Nations people, animals, and the environment.

You and your supervisors will need to discuss whether your research will involve research ethics clearance.

This is a crucial process of a higher degree by research project, particularly if your research involves human research participants, animals, defence trade controls, or issues surrounding First Nations people.

In addition to the initial ethical clearance, every year HDR candidates and supervisors will also need to complete an Annual Report form ahead of the anniversary of the approval date on progress and conduct.

This is critical to maintaining our ongoing oversight and responsibility on behalf of the university as an accredited NHMRC HREC.

Separate approval requests for variations, extensions or renewal of ethics clearance can be made via email.

A Final Report including a short summary of results and conclusions can be lodged once the report of the study is submitted for publication, to a funding body or for examination (HDR students).
