Located on the Katherine River 312 kilometres south-east of Darwin it is often described as the place where 'the outback meets the tropics'. Katherine is centre of a large beef cattle region, an important gold producer and offers a range of swimming, fishing and recreational parks.

One of the most spectacular features of the Katherine area is the Nitmiluk National Park. This national park includes the Katherine Gorge (Nitmiluk) which can be explored by canoe, boat and helicopter.

Around Katherine, you will find such treasures as Borroloola, Roper River and the Gulf Region. Mataranka and the magnificent scenery of the Victoria River Region, the historic mining town of Pine Creek and the Daly River Region.

The town of Katherine itself has many places of interest including the historic Springvale Homestead, the River Corridor, Katherine Hot Springs and various museums and historic buildings.
