Overview
The Post Graduate certificate in Primary Health Care supports the registered nurse to advance their knowledge and skills in the specialist area of primary health care. The course is founded on the principles of primary health care and allows students to contextualise content to their area of professional practice in urban and remote settings. Students will extend their knowledge of primary health care principles and the underpinning evidence that supports practice. The degree supports students to improve health outcomes in their area of practice. The degree is offered part-time over one year.

What will I study?
This degree is offered part-time over one year.
Course structure
Students complete 2 core units of study before selecting an elective in their second semester to specialise in urban or remote primary health care nursing.
A candidate must successfully complete units totalling 40 credit points (cp) as detailed below. All units are valued at 10 credit points unless otherwise indicated.

Entry requirements
Admission criteria
Applicants for this course must meet all of the following qualifications:
- Successful completion of a recognised Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent international qualification; and
- Applicants must also hold current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Division 1 registered nurse; and
- Current employment in a field where primary health care is delivered by nurses is required. Applicants should include details of their relevant employment in their application.
Hospital-trained nurses with current registration may also be considered.

The minimum English language requirement for this course is met by either undertaking previous education from an English-speaking country or undertaking one of the following English language tests and obtaining the minimum requirements listed below.

| IELTS Academic Module (including One Skill Retake) | A minimum overall score of 6.5 with no band less than 6.0. |

| Common European Framework Certificate of English Proficiency | A minimum overall grade of C1, valid for three years from the date of the test to the date of commencement at CDU. |
| Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic module | A minimum overall score of 58 with no score lower than 50. |
| TOEFL Internet-based Test (iBT) | A minimum overall score of 79 with a minimum writing score of 21. |
