Danala | Education and Community Precinct

The $250 million building is a key part of the Darwin City Deal, bringing together the Australian and Northern Territory Governments and Charles Darwin University to achieve a shared vision for Darwin’s Central Business District.

The Campus has three designated areas – two levels for CDU teachers and staff, two levels for students and teaching, and two levels open to the public.

The façade design features a variety of landscaped terraces and sunshades to manage the sun’s reflection off the building while maximising light and views inside, as well as maintaining access to sunlight for the heritage-listed Boab tree on site.

Students will benefit from state-of-the-art infrastructure designed to enhance the learning experience. The location of the campus will mean students will have access to employment and work-integrated learning opportunities in the heart of the Darwin CBD.

Danala

Charles Darwin University is working with Larrakia Nation to restore place names and revitalise language across its campuses in the Northern Territory.

The Education and Community Precinct will be named Danala, the name for dillybag, which represents a place to house knowledge.

CDU students and staff will weave a strong spiritual Danala, a dilly-bag where they will carry knowledge and tools as they travel along a successful and fulfilling career.

Danala will bring students, visitors, academics and other community members together to learn and grow in a place that strongly recognises First Nations people, culture, language and customs in place-naming.
