CDU students meet Ramos-Horta
Four Charles Darwin University students met Timor-Leste’s “Father of Independence” during their recent teaching placement at the Dili International School.
Hannah Seymour, Lara Whitehouse, Stuart Evans and John Smallacombe met Jose Ramos-Horta as part of a special school event. The 1996 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate was an instrumental and tireless figure behind Timor-Leste’s battle for independence.
Lecturer in Education Therese Kersten said the meeting was made more auspicious because of the date.
“Jose Ramos-Horta was an important guest at the school for their independence celebrations,” Ms Kersten said.
The CDU College of Education students were giving classes in English, History and Physical Education at the international school as part of the New Colombo Plan (NCP) Mobility Program.
The NCP is an Australian Government initiative to lift knowledge of the Indo-Pacific by supporting a new generation of Australians to engage with the region.
