Charles Darwin University expands Sydney centre
The Northern Territory based Charles Darwin University is growing its presence in Sydney with the opening today (Thursday, 27 April) of its expanded centre in Haymarket.
Two new floors will be opened including a health precinct to accommodate CDU’s growing health student cohort and further deliver the latest in learning and teaching spaces for business and finance students.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Simon Maddocks said CDU Sydney offered the flexibility to support students to achieve their goals.
“This is an important stage in the growth and development of CDU, which is well placed to support both international and domestic students in the greater Sydney area,” Professor Maddocks said.
“The new facilities such as the Clinical Practice Suite will provide a space for hundreds of our southern-based external nursing students when they attend their week-long Clinical Training Block.”
He said the expansion also would enhance the delivery of a suite of internal mode higher education courses in business and finance.
“The centre is designed to provide easy access to teaching staff and state-of-the-art learning facilities for internal and external students, and to provide spaces for students to work and learn collaboratively in classes on-site and online,” he said.
Emerging as a centre on Level 10 in 2013, the CDU centre now consists of three floors. Level 9 is home to “Collaborate” teaching spaces, designed for integrated online and in-room class interaction, generous student study spaces, student lounge, computer labs and business offices. Level 11, known as the health precinct, includes the custom-made Clinical Practice Suite with 13 beds, classrooms, a computer lab, and staff offices.
Professor Maddocks said the additions were the start of a new chapter for the Sydney centre as the university partnered with local businesses, hospitals, schools and other organisations to provide world-class graduates.
Courses on offer to international and domestic students through CDU Sydney include Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Accounting and Master of Business Administration. Master classes, workshops and seminars also are held at the centre.
CDU Sydney is located on Levels 9, 10 and 11, 815 George Street in Haymarket, the international student precinct. It is close to railways, public transport, cafes, restaurants and shopping venues and recreational activities in Sydney.
CDU’s Chancellor, Mr Neil Balnaves AO, will open the centre expansion (Level 9, 815 George Street) at 5pm (AEST) today.
