CDU holds firm in world’s best young unis ranking

Charles Darwin University is continuing to feature prominently as one of the world’s best universities that are less than 50 years old.

The Northern Territory’s only university is positioned 34th in The Times Higher Education (THE) “Young University Ranking”, which identifies the top 200 universities around the world that are aged less than 50 years old.

This is the fifth time CDU has featured in the THE Young University Ranking, which was expanded this year to include the best 200 institutions – up from 150 last year.

CDU Vice-Chancellor Professor Simon Maddocks said a ranking of 34th among 200 of the best young universities was a glowing endorsement.

“I congratulate the staff and the whole university community on this achievement,” Professor Maddocks said.

He said the outstanding ranking reflected, in particular, the quality and excellence of research programs at the university.

“The challenge for CDU as a small regional university is to continue to maintain our ranking in the fiercely competitive international system,” he said.

CDU was one of 23 Australian universities to feature on the list this year, placing fifth.

The Young University Ranking complements the annual “THE World University Rankings”, in which CDU is ranked in the top two percent of universities worldwide.

Performance indicators for both rankings include teaching (the learning environment), research (volume, income and reputation), citations (research influence), international outlook (staff, students and research) and industry income (innovation).

THE also released a list of the world’s top 50 Gen Y Universities. CDU was ranked 11th on this list.
