Darwin seminar to mark Greek Independence Day
Territorians can celebrate Greek Independence Day during a special event at Charles Darwin University’s Casuarina campus on Thursday (23 March).
Head of Greek and Hellenic Studies Associate Professor George Frazis said a public seminar would include a history lesson on the Greek War of Independence, along with poetry and revolutionary speech readings.
“Darwin’s first Greeks were likely to have lived through the Greek War of Independence, having migrated decades later in 1869,” he said.
“Since their arrival, the Greek community has continued to build and shape Darwin into the unique place that it is today.”
The Celebrating the National Day of Greece event will be held in Room 1, Building Blue 5, Casuarina campus from 6.45pm to 8pm.
RSVP is not required.
