‘Speed-friending‘ breaks the ice at O Week

More than 500 students from Australia and overseas are expected to attend Orientation Week at Charles Darwin University’s Casuarina campus, which began today (20 February).

This year’s new activity of speed-friending, similar to the concept of speed-dating, will help new and returning students to make friends in lightening rounds of less than one minute.

Students also will attend workshops, campus tours and information sessions during the annual event, held during the lead-up to Semester One.

Bachelor of Nursing student Erith Carr said she arrived from Sydney in time to attend the event and familiarise herself with the campus and meet other students.

“I had never been to Darwin and moving was a spur of the moment decision to change up my life, which I am really looking forward to,” Erith said.

“I chose to study at CDU because its nursing course places a strong focus on rural and remote health, which is quite different to what is on offer in other cities.”

Student Recruitment and Events Manager Marissa Briston said Orientation provided students with an introduction to campus life, their course requirements, the services available, and the opportunity to meet other students.
