Territory FM raises $10k for veteran charity

Trouble has led to triumph, with listeners of 104.1 Territory FM radio raising more than $10,000 for a local charity after an alleged theft.

Territory FM Breakfast presenter Mel Little said listeners made pledges to Legacy NT after she announced on her show that about $1000 had allegedly been stolen from the charity.

Ms Little said listeners were particularly moved by the incident as the charity, which cares for the relatives of deceased veterans, was allegedly robbed on the eve of Remembrance Day.

“The response has been incredible and reflects the resilience and compassion of the Territorian spirit,” she said.

“The studio phone didn’t stop ringing for three hours, with everyday mums and dads, businesses and Defence personnel calling in to make a pledge.”

Ms Little said overseas listeners who streamed the radio show online also made pledges, including an American combat veteran in the United States.

The alleged theft of a Legacy NT charity tin occurred at Karama Shopping Plaza while volunteers were packing up their stall.
