Food Week to be a feast for all ages
Budding cooks can learn to whip up a range of healthy and decadent treats during Northern Territory Food Week at Charles Darwin University’s Palmerston campus.
Commercial cookery and bakery lecturer Jason Wilkes said ocean-to-plate meals, gourmet sausages, pastry sweets, pasta, sourdough bread and other delicacies would be on the menu during the all-ages event.
Mr Wilkes said a special school holiday class would be held for kids aged seven to 12 and adult classes included a Japanese cooking class, run by Oka Teppanyaki owner and chef William Young.
He said the event aimed to encourage people of all ages to experience the joys of cooking in a commercial kitchen and gain skills they could apply at home.
“It is important to get kids excited about cooking from an early age, so that it might have a positive influence on them later in life,” Mr Wilkes said.
“And we hope to teach the adults some tricks of the trade, which will help make life easier for them in the kitchen.”
NT Food Week will be held at the commercial kitchens at Palmerston campus from Monday, 3 October until Thursday, 6 October.
