Tyre changing demo rolls into CDU Open Day
The trick to changing a car tyre and other useful skills will be among demonstrations during Charles Darwin University Open Day at Casuarina campus on Sunday (21 August).
Thousands of people are expected to attend the event, which will include food stalls, live entertainment and more than 100 activities showcasing CDU’s Higher Education and Vocational Education and Training courses.
School Liaison and Learning Pathways Coordinator Trisha Mellow said staff would reveal a few trade secrets to making the task of tyre changing easier for people with varying abilities.
“Tyre changing skills are very useful to have in an emergency situation, especially in the NT where you have people travelling long distances and often in extreme weather conditions,” Ms Mellows said.
She said the activity would highlight CDU’s automotive tyre servicing technology units, which could assist students in creating their own automotive service and repair business.
Visitors to Open Day also can test their knowledge of human anatomy by attempting to place internal organ models inside a mannequin, and playing a computer-based patient treatment activity.
Other new activities will include a Wild Thingz space where visitors can meet turtles, snakes and other native animals, and an art workshop where visitors can become an internet meme.
Pokémon Go lures will be laid around campus to attract the popular pocket monsters to the all-ages event. Entertainment throughout the day will include Nick Jr.’s PAW Patrol, Jamealah Belly Dancers, the Burning Circus and other local acts.
Visitors can download the CDU Events App to pre-plan their day and automatically enter a competition to win a high-tech study pack.
