Students discover career pathways

Hundreds of high school students have sampled a range of study opportunities during Year 10 Discovery Day at Charles Darwin University’s Casuarina campus.

About 300 students from the Darwin and Palmerston areas recently attended the annual event to experience first-hand the study options available, and to learn about course requirements.

A highlight of this year’s event was a session on medical laboratory science where students learnt about  the CDU and Flinders University’s joint double degree in a Bachelor of Clinical Sciences and Doctor of Medicine, offered through the NT Medical Program.

Other sessions provided information on subjects including information technology, humanitarian and community studies, environmental science, trades, education, nursing, social work, aquaculture, exercise and sports science, law, engineering, architecture and design, business, new media design, languages, midwifery, history, politics and social sciences, health sciences, and psychology.

CDU Student Recruitment Coordinator Tanya Weatherstone said Year 10 was an important year for students to consider what study pathways would help them to achieve their career goals. 

Schools attending the event included Palmerston Christian College, Taminmin College, Casuarina Senior College, Darwin High School and the NT Open Education Centre.
