Leading lawyers brought into the fold

Former Australian High Court judge The Honorable Michael Kirby AC CMG is among notable figures to recently receive an honorary appointment at Charles Darwin University.

Mr Kirby said he had visited Casuarina campus almost every year for many years and was proud to join leading legal experts in becoming a University Professorial Fellow with CDU’s School of Law.

“I especially admire the University’s outreach to our Indigenous people and its use of new technology to provide distance education throughout our region,” he said.

Law academic Professor Ida Bagus Wyasa Putra from Udayana University in Indonesia and Professor of Law Antoine Bullier from Pantheon-Sorbonne University in France also recently became University Professorial Fellows with the school. Earlier this year, Professor Bullier visited Casuarina campus where he presented two seminars on topics ranging from post-doctoral degrees to terrorism in France.

Other important honorary appointments included Northern Territory Legal Aid director Suzan Cox QC and North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency principal legal officer Jonathon Hunyor, who became University Fellows at CDU.

Head of the School of Law Professor Ned Aughterson welcomed the recent appointments, saying these individuals had each made significant contributions both within their areas of expertise and to the wider community.
