CDU receives international recognition

Charles Darwin University has risen to its highest ever rank after the release of The Times Higher Education World University Rankings overnight. It now ranks in the top 300 universities globally.

One of the youngest and smallest universities in Australia, CDU has ranked in the 251–300 category out of more than 1100 institutions worldwide in the prestigious THE World University Rankings for 2015-16.

CDU Vice-Chancellor Professor Simon Maddocks said he was proud of the university’s achievement in being included in the world rankings for the fifth consecutive year.

“This is the second consecutive year we have risen up the list to another category,” Professor Maddocks said.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings uses 13 separate performance indicators to examine a university’s strengths against its core missions including teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.

CDU’s strongest scores were for International Outlook and Citations, which reflects the number of times researchers around the world have quoted CDU research.

“It’s clear that CDU is extremely well regarded in the areas of research, in particular,” he said.

“The Northern Territory should be very pleased that its university is achieving this level of international recognition. I congratulate all our staff on this exceptional ranking.”

CDU also remains in another set of Times Higher Education rankings: of the world’s top 50 universities less than 50 years old.
