About 300 students from across the country are expected to attend Charles Darwin University Orientation Week at Casuarina campus, which began today (Monday).

On Day One, the new and returning students attended guided tours and workshops and information sessions to help them prepare for Semester 2.

Student Recruitment and Events Manager Marissa Briston said the event gave students an opportunity to mingle with fellow students and to familiarise themselves with campus facilities and services.

“Orientation is a great way to help students ease into Semester 2 before their study loads start to build up,” Ms Briston said.

“Students can get a sense of university life through creative and engaging activities, and find out about their course requirements and the facilities and services available to them on campus.”

After an official welcome by Vice-Chancellor Professor Simon Maddocks, students attended a campus tour and session by past and present students who offered the newcomers tips about university life.

Other sessions on offer during the week include computer skills, scholarship information, student account activation and essay writing.

On Wednesday, international students will be welcomed to Darwin by the Office of International Services, and can attend workshops on culture, safety, and overseas student health cover.

Orientation activities will also be held at CDU’s Alice Springs campus and its centres in Melbourne and Sydney.
