Graduates to celebrate

Years of hard work will be recognised this week when hundreds of graduands don official academic dress to attend one of several Charles Darwin University graduation ceremonies.

High-profile attendees will be honoured for their contributions to tertiary education including Mr Tom Harris, Mr Kevin Davis AM and Mr Neil Ross.

Mr Harris will receive an honorary Doctor of Letters for his outstanding contribution to the development of tertiary education in the Northern Territory.

Mr Davis AM will be awarded an honorary Doctor of Education for his outstanding contribution to the development of tertiary education in the NT through his leadership of the Darwin Institute of Technology and the Northern Territory University.

Mr Ross will receive the honorary title of Companion of the University for his contribution to the development of the university.

Former CDU Vice-Chancellor Professor Barney Glover will receive the award of Emeritus Professor for his contribution to higher education.

Thousands of VET and higher education students will mark the culmination of their university studies at mid-year CDU graduation ceremonies in Darwin on May 21 and 22, in Alice Springs on June 11, and Adelaide on June 9.

The May 21 ceremony will recognise graduands from the Faculty of Law, Education, Business and Arts, along with the Faculty of Vocational Education and Training: School of Service Industries and the Australian Centre for Indigenous Knowledges and Education. The Occasional Address will be delivered by Mr Tom Harris.

The May 22 morning ceremony includes the Faculty of Law, Education, Business and Arts and the Faculty of Vocational Education and Training: School of Primary Industries and School of VET Health, Community and Children’s Services. Mr Kevin Davis will deliver the Occasional Address.

The second ceremony on May 22 will recognise the academic achievements of students from the Faculty of Engineering, Health, Science and the Environment, Menzies School of Health Research, Faculty of Vocational Education and Training: School of Primary Industries and School of Trades. Professor Barney Glover will deliver the Occasional Address at the Friday evening ceremony.

A total of 14 PhD candidates will graduate.

The ceremonies will be held at the Darwin Convention Centre, Alice Springs Convention Centre and Adelaide Convention Centre.
