Celebrated radio host Johnny McKay is heading south after almost five years of lending his voice to 104.1 Territory FM in Darwin.

The Breakfast show host is also known in the Darwin community for volunteering with the Northern Territory Emergency Services, for which he received a Pride of Australia Heroism Medal last year.

Johnny moved to Darwin from New Zealand in 2010 to gain radio experience as a voluntary announcer at the Territory FM studio on Charles Darwin University’s Casuarina campus.

He was promoted to Breakfast show host a few months later and said he gained more than radio experience while in Darwin.

“Darwin has become home to me and I am very sad to be leaving,” Johnny said. “This lovely city and its surroundings will always remain close to me.”

Johnny said he would miss his involvement in Darwin community fundraising and charity activities, such as the World’s Greatest Shave, and promoting these charities on the Breakfast show.

“Territory FM has given me the opportunity to further my career and I have met great people along the way and had such memorable experiences in this wonderful city,” Johnny said.

He also recently assisted in restoration efforts at Tiwi Islands Indigenous communities affected by Cyclone Lam through his role as an NTES volunteer.

Territory FM Station Manager Jih Seymour commended Johnny for his strong work ethic and his tireless efforts to promote positive community messages while on the Breakfast show.

“Johnny is such a talented and dedicated member of the Territory FM team,” Mr Seymour said.

“We wish him all the best in whatever path he chooses to take in the future.”

104.1 Territory FM Breakfast host Johnny McKay will present his final show on Thursday, 2 April from 6am until 9am. For more information visit W: territoryfm.com/
