Almost $200,000 in scholarships has been awarded to first year students commencing study at Charles Darwin University this semester.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Simon Maddocks commended the 24 winners at CDU’s recent High Achievers’ Awards ceremony for each securing scholarships after topping the NT in their Year 12 results.

Four of the winners received Pro Vice-Chancellors’ Scholarships, which will provide them with $6000 in their first year, followed by $5000 a year for the remainder of their degrees.

Winner of the Pro Vice-Chancellors' Scholarship from the faculty of Engineering, Health, Science and the Environment Shannon Kieran said the scholarship would assist her in her five-year study program.

Shannon has entered the dual Bachelor of Engineering Science/Master of Engineering program, which is being offered for the first time at CDU this year.

“I am very happy and proud to have won the scholarship and am excited to start my studies,” she said.

“I chose to study at CDU because it is the only university in Australia that offers engineering programs that have achieved a Europe-based EUR-ACE accreditation.”

The scholarship recipients came from NT schools, including Casuarina Senior College, Marrara Christian College, Darwin High School, Taminmin High School, Kormilda College, Good Shepherd Lutheran College and The Essington School Darwin.

The 2015 High Achievers Scholarships were awarded to NT school leavers based on their Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR).
