Public lectures to unlock philosophy of social science
Two public lectures on the philosophy of social science and other knowledge traditions will be held at Charles Darwin University’s Casuarina campus this month.
Senior Research Fellow at the Northern Institute at CDU, Professor Helen Verran said the upcoming lectures were open to the wider public as well as staff and students.
The first lecture, “An Introduction to Philosophy of Social Science”, will focus on the idea that many different knowledge traditions exist. Professor Verran will discuss her experiences working with the Yoruba-speaking community in West Africa and learning to understand Yoruba knowledge practices.
The second lecture, “Meeting other Knowledge Traditions”, will draw on the ways individuals translate the knowledge practices of other peoples.
The lectures will be held in Blue building 5, level 1, room 1 on Tuesday 10 and Tuesday 17 February from 3pm until 4.30pm. Preparatory readings will be provided for those who attend. To register visit W:cdu.edu.au/northern-institute/professor-helen-verran-lectures
