Crowds flock to CDU Open Day

Charles Darwin University has had its biggest Open Day yet with more than 4500 people attending the fun-filled event on Sunday.

The day kicked off with colourful performances and interactive activities showcasing the wide range of courses and research offered at CDU.

Rich smells of hot laksa and baked muffins filled the air from cooking stalls at Casuarina campus as visitors attended workshops and stalls run by staff and volunteers.

Visitors had unique opportunities to ride a one-tonne digger, feed hungry barramundi, and make their own linocut prints to take home as a fond memory of the day.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Simon Maddocks said the event was a huge success and attracted visitors of many different ages to attend.

“Open Day provides us with an excellent opportunity to engage with the wider Darwin community and show the many possibilities that can open up from taking a course at CDU,” Professor Maddocks said.

Visitors wondered through stalls displaying the many different areas of study at CDU, including Medicine, Nursing, Education, Environmental Studies, Pharmacy, Health Science, Exercise and Sports Science, Tourism and Events, Psychology, and Arts.

Eager children watched headliner Peppa Pig perform live on stage, and listened to Indigenous storytellers share tales from the Living Archive of Aboriginal Languages at CDU Library.

Another highlight was ABC sports commentator Charlie King sharing Territory sports stories and talking about his experiences commentating at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
