Aboriginal stories shared at CDU Open Day

Aboriginal storytellers will join children’s favourite Peppa Pig and other performers at Charles Darwin University’s Open Day at Casuarina campus on Sunday (24 August).

The storytellers will select children’s stories from CDU’s Living Archive of Aboriginal Languages and read them in Indigenous language and English, at the CDU Library.

Living Archives of Aboriginal Languages Project Officer Cathy Bow said the magical event would highlight the diverse set of Aboriginal languages that thrived in the Northern Territory.

“It will be a unique opportunity to hear some of these stories read aloud by these traditional owners and storytellers,” Ms Bow said.

“These languages should be preserved, shared and celebrated.”

Peppa Pig will perform her latest live show on the day, “Taking Turns”, and will advise youngsters in the audience how to jump in mud puddles and eat chocolate cake.

Music will be provided by a stellar local artist line-up, including Didgeridoo-meets-Drum ‘n Bass group, eMDee, the CDU Music Students’ Showcase, and NT Music School choir, Singchronicity.

A performance by the Rince na h'Eireann Darwin Irish Dance School will also take place on the main stage.

Visitors are also invited to take part in the CDU Open Day Explorer Game on their phones or tablets, developed by CDU’s Innovative Media Production Studio.

Players will have the opportunity to win an “Ultimate Study Pack”, including a Transformer Book, speaker system, headphones, portable hard drive and backpack.
