Scholarship aids remote Indigenous teaching research

A research scholarship will help a PhD candidate investigate how remote Indigenous teachers interact with digital technology.

Donna Robbins was awarded the Charles Darwin University Library - Sage Publishers Asia-Pacific Scholarship for an Indigenous Research Student to assist her research.

Ms Robbins, of northeast Arnhem Land, said the funding would allow her to travel to very remote communities to conduct her research.

“I will now be able to travel to communities and meet the teachers face-to-face, instead of communicating with participants online over Skype,” Ms Robbins said.

She said her research explored remote Indigenous teachers’ perceptions around digital technology, how they used it and what motivated them to use it.

Ms Robbins said the research could be used to support the development of remote Indigenous teachers and enhance their use of digital technologies within the profession.

She said she planned to publish parts of her work with SAGE Journals, which co-sponsored the award.

This is the second year the award has been offered to a CDU student.
