Student exhibition hails first Risograph in Darwin
Charles Darwin University (CDU) creative and digital arts students have presented the first Risographic exhibition of artworks created in Darwin, in the Northern Territory.
The exhibition titled Wormhole, features over 50 individual and collaborative works from CDU students, exploring the artists' individual interests and creative obsessions.
First-year visual arts and design students have been working with layers through a range of digital and non-digital techniques to build up their artistic compositions.
These are printed on a newly acquired Risograph printer located in the CDU Riso Studio at the Casuarina campus.
CDU Creative and Digital Arts Lecturer Matthew Van Roden said the students have been experimenting with fluorescent Riso inks and applying their colour theory knowledge through unique Risographic printing techniques.
“Our student body is wonderfully diverse, they bring equally diverse interests and creative practices to the classroom,” Mr Van Roden said.
“Teaching through the Risograph has been instrumental in finding a collective output and shared language through which to translate the variety of creative interests and approaches students to bring to the table.”
Mr Van Roden said the new Risograph is available for face-to-face and online students to use, which offers opportunities for students to gain professional knowledge both in preparing files for print and printmaking on the Risograph.
Students inspired by their first foray into Riso printing are excited to put their new inks to the test, generating photographic images for their next bodies of work.
Wormhole opened to an eager crowd of art lovers at Untitled gallery+studio in Coconut Grove on May 13 and runs until May 26.
