Whether for professional development or to reach that lofty state of self-actualisation, there has never been a better time to further your education. But sometimes there seem to be so many obstacles standing in the way: no unis near you, competing life commitments, or fear of chasing your dreams. Read on to find out how to overcome these barriers and find out why now really is the right time to study.

It’s up to you to fill your own cup, so show yourself some love by chasing your ambition to study.

Put yourself first for a change

If you’re a parent, putting yourself first may seem unnatural when your kids need so much nurturing. But who’s nurturing you? Feeling happy, challenged and fulfilled allows you to be your best as a parent and role model.

Likewise, when you’re busy at work, it’s so easy to put your own hopes and desires to the side to make sure deadlines aren’t missed. It’s up to you to fill your own cup, so show yourself some love by chasing your ambition to study. After all, higher education doesn’t only open doors to a successful career, it also a ticket to expand on your talents and fulfil your potential.

Dreams don’t wait

It almost seems part of the human condition to push our dreams to the side in order to achieve more ‘conventional’ or linear goals, such as a successful career, marriage, children and retirement. While all those things are great, the attainment of your biggest (and maybe wackiest) dreams should also be on your ‘things to achieve in my short life’ list. So stop making excuses, chase that study dream, and go kick some #lifegoals.

Higher education is now so easy to access

These days, it’s out with lectures in stuffy old halls and in with interactive online learning – when and where it suits you. You probably have heaps going on in your life and can’t always attend classes in person. That’s why most of our courses are available online – from nursing to psychology, education to law; we work around you.

By studying online, you can watch pre-recorded lectures when the kids are in bed, post on online discussion boards during your lunch break, or participate in tutorials remotely via virtual classrooms – all through our online learning system. And don’t worry about borrowing and returning library books – our students have 24-hour access to digital library resources, including ebooks, digital journals, online newspaper articles, and heaps more. Oh, and the online assessment submissions? So convenient!

And you don’t have to quit your job or hire a nanny to study full time, we offer flexible study options. You can work towards your degree doing as little as one unit per semester. It may take a little longer to graduate than if you were to study full time, but the sooner you get started, the sooner you’ll be building new knowledge and skills working towards your degree.

Having a solid educational foundation on your resume will help you stand out from the pack.

The job market is more competitive than ever

If you’re going for your first job in your new industry, having a university qualification behind you can give you some serious cut through in today’s cluttered job market. In some cases, hundreds of applicants will be going for the one position, so having a solid educational foundation on your resume will help you stand out from the pack – in fact, many recruiters use degree qualifications as a first-stage filter when sorting through applications.

If you’ve already got an undergrad degree and a few years’ professional experience under your belt, but need some extra oomph on your resume, maybe a postgraduate degree might be what you need to shine in the job market. Aside from increasing your chances when going for that next promotion, completing a postgrad qualification can help you stay ahead of the pack by keeping your industry knowledge up to date. So whether you’re just starting out or looking to take the next step in your career, holding a degree from a reputable institution is key to landing that dream job.

Completing a degree helps you build a strong theoretical foundation on which you can build your professional practice.

Degrees are expected these days

Read through any job description with a major firm, government department or multinational organisation and you’ll likely see a university qualification listed as one of the top selection criteria. This is because completing a degree helps you build a strong theoretical foundation on which you can build your professional practice.

If you’re looking at senior management positions, you might even see a postgraduate qualification listed as a key competency, so if you’re looking to join the elite in your field, a uni qualification is where it’s at. Also, by completing a degree, you’re demonstrating to potential employers that you’re committed and are a finisher/completer type: two highly valued character traits in the modern workforce.

So stop making excuses – make the time to pursue your passion, build on your talents, and follow your dreams – and apply for that degree today.
